Our Club's Philosophy

HPJCC is a club that makes it easy for parents and fun for children. Our focus is on development of "Cricketers for Life" through sportsmanship fair play and fun!

Our philosophy is represented by words of wisdom from John Buchanan, former Australian Team Coach, former HPJCC Parent & coach:
-
Skill development comes first. Competition ladders last.
-
Don't impose the adult game and all its expectations on them too early.
-
Children's imagination and natural competitiveness will create the Test Match atmosphere they desire.
-
Be innovative and inventive to keep children active. Interested and skill oriented, because cricket is a game built on inactivity, which is just the opposite to what children are looking for.
-
Encourage girls to play; cricket is not a male domain.
-
We don't expect our children to be rocket scientists at a young age, instead we spend time giving them the foundation skills for their chosen career, so why subject young children to the pressures and demands of the adult game.
-
Give them the skills first, and then they will he better able to cope with the demands of the game and as a consequence, enjoy it more.
-
Talented young cricketers will always shine through, just give them the time!
John Buchanan, former Australian Cricket Team Coach and former HPJCC Parent and Coach
